...Posting this here because I felt like it. xD

It's not done, of course-- I'll probably do a lot of revision once I get the rest of it done-- but whatever. I sent part of it to Cat a million years ago and she seemed to like it, so here you go~!

Fic: ...I don't know what to title this yet >.<
Rating: PG-13 (Wow, Tori... no lemon? xD)
Pairing: None mentioned yet, but later hints of canon pairings which includes several shades of Hughes/Roy as far as I'm concerned.
Genre: ...Probably angst/gen, I think...
Spoilers: The same spoiler everyone warns for in FMA fic that involves poor Maes. T____T

Anyway... yeah. Enjoy, I guess ._.

Bang.

I heard the shot before I felt it, before I even saw the flash. That second afterward, that shocked moment, that brief pause... it could have lasted forever as far as I was concerned. I was so out of it that I could have sworn I saw the bullet itself, flying towards me before I could do anything. I stared at her-- at it, whatever it was that was wearing my Gracia's face-- and it looked back at me with a victorious, almost hungry expression. I knew what it was going to do. It wanted to kill me before I had the chance to get away... Like an idiot I kept staring. That brief pause could have lasted forever.

But then the moment was over and I felt it.

The thing just turned around and walked away as I jolted back, clenching my teeth as the shot punched right into my chest and knocked the wind out me. I expected it to hurt, to make me scream, to yank at me... but all I felt was fatigue like a dull throb. Like an already-old bruise I'd feel right before I went to sleep.

I couldn't hold my arm up anymore. I barely felt it drop to my side.

The thing walking away didn't even glance back as an almost pleasant sort of warmness spread from the ache. My vision started to tunnel, I stopped feeling my hands and feet. I stopped feeling my legs, the world tipped, and it slowly dawned on me that I was dying.

Dying. Me. Now.

No...

No!

I couldn't die here, I thought frantically. I was so close... we were so close... I had a secret that could bring down the top dogs. Evidence would be easy to get. If Roy and I could just be careful about it... tell the right things to the right people... God, we'd be heroes. He'd be promoted to Brigadier General within the year. Hell, I would! We could get him to the top before we knew it!

I just had to tell him. I had to tell him. I could barely see-- my glasses must have fallen off-- but I could tell I was on my back. I had to get up. Had to tell him, had to get to him. I had to...

I wasn't going to die here. It just wasn't possible.

I had promised him.

I couldn't die now...

X-X-X

Laughing. "See? I told'ja!"

Surprised. "Well, I'll be damned."

Thoughful. "I had a feeling."

Voices. Three voices that I think I've never heard before, but they all sound so familiar. A girl, a man, and a woman... especially the little girl, I don't know her but I do, who is she...?

"Hey, mister Hughes? Can you hear us?" The little girl's voice. No wait, I have heard it before. A long time ago, probably... a childhood friend? No, not that long ago...

I feel her shaking my arm, and I open my eyes... Dark. I can't see a thing. I reach around tiredly...

"Something wrong?" The woman sounds softly concerned.

"Glasses..." I mumble.

A laugh from the little girl at my side. "I'll get 'em!" she sings.

The woman chuckles a bit. "Strange, the things we carry over..."

"They're part of his appearance," the man tells her-- reminds her, it sounds like. "I've seen plenty of people carry over a pair of glasses, or a cane... even automail, though most prefer to have all their limbs intact."

Before I can think about their odd exchange, the little girl is back with a "Here ya go!" as she slips my glasses back on with surprising dexterity for someone who sounds so young.

I blink up at the night sky, up at the girl leaning over me with an excited look on her face. She grins at me with big, blue eyes. I swear I've seen her before...

"Come on," the woman says nicely, offering a hand to help me up. For the first time I look at her face, and I feel calmer already. She has large, kind gray-green eyes, and a distinctly maternal face. I take her hand, and the little girl gets behind my shoulders and helps push me up, still laughing sweetly and flipping her braids around.

"Thank..." But the words of gratitude die in my throat as I turn to look at her. My eyes widen and I have to struggle to find what I want to say.

"What... what the hell is...?!"

Behind the little girl-- no, underneath her, she's standing on it-- is a body. A body staring up at the heavens in a shadow of shock and desperation, the light gone from its eyes, its mouth slack. The dead man's chest is covered in blood, and after a second I hear myself gasp, and I feel around quickly for the blood on me...

"Please don't be alarmed, Maes... or do you prefer your surname? Maybe just Lieutenant Colonel?" I can hardly hear the woman's gentle tones.

"Not for long, they're sure to promote you after this." The man sounds like he could be laughing. Laughing. I whip around, shocked-- and for some reason, angry-- and then I gasp again as I see the man's face for the first time.

His hair is dirty blond. His eyes are dark gold. His face is an expression of smug amusement, like he just told some great joke and I'm too dumb to get it. He looks like... but he's just way too young to be...

"Please forgive Demetri," the woman says in apology, taking my arm. I finally tear my gaze off of the golden-eyed man, only to catch sight of the body. She tries to make me face her, but I can't look up again from the dead man.

His skin is losing color, I can tell that even in the dim light from the stars. Blood pools around his still form, his hands are half-closed and probably stiff from rigor mortis, his glasses are somewhere off to the side...

I barely register the woman sigh. She lets go of my arm and puts a comforting hand on my shoulder, finally introducing herself as I stare in horror at the body.

"My name is Trisha Elric," she says, but I can hardly hear her as I swallow and try to take in the face right in front of me, the dead man's face, my face.

I'm staring at my own corpse.

I'm working on the next chapter/section as we speak, I promise. T.T

Though for some reason, this feels a little weak to me... like there's just something missing. I can't figure out what. Do you guys see any glaring errors, or anything? :/

This year I've been busy!

Last week I saved a busload of nuns in Angola (326 points). Last Saturday I set pyro_edward's puppy on fire (-66 points). Last Monday I turned sevlow in for running naked in the mall (3 points). Last Friday I signed my organ donor card (28 points). Last month I ruled Duluth, Minnesota as a kind and benevolent dictator (700 points).

Overall, I've been nice (991 points). For Christmas I deserve a toy train!

I've been so depressed the past few days, I feel I should post the happy things now before I start dumping on you (I've already dumped a lot on poor Cat :< *squeezes her* Sorry luv~).

Good news! I got mah learner's permit! :D This means that if I can manage to drag my parents into the car long enough, I will soon get my license. AND THUS BE ABLE TO TAKE LONG TRIPS ALONE INTO OTHER NEW ENGLAND STATES-- XD Maybe. If my parents ever wake up and realize I'm not five anymore.

Moar good news! We're doing HTML in my computer class... and our websites get to be about anything. So for my first assignment I rambled on a bit about cosplay and stuck a big fat Roy picture in the middle of the page. <3 My next assignment is a small website and will have a page littered with Hugheses. *dies of anticipation*

Also, my friend sits right next to me in this very awesome (and EASY) class. We basically just spent the whole class talking about Tokio Hotel, Hughes, Cat, what continent the Bahamas are in, and how I need to travel more because she's been EVERYWHERE. x_x;; She is unbelievably awesome, though. A morning with her should keep me going for a while. :3

La-dee-dah, I think I'll go and update my eljay today~~~

Here's something my dad sent me, apparently his work buddies have been passing it around~

PHONE REPAIR

A Kansas farm wife called the local phone company to report her telephone failed to ring when her friends called - and that on the few occasions, when it did ring, her dog always moaned right before the phone rang.

The telephone repairman proceeded to the scene, curious to see this psychic dog or senile lady. He climbed a telephone pole, hooked in his test set, and dialed the subscriber's house.

The phone didn't ring right away, but then the dog moaned and the telephone began to ring.

Climbing down from the pole, the telephone repairman found:

1. The dog was tied to the telephone system's ground wire with a steel chain and collar.

2. The wire connection to the ground rod was loose.

3. The dog was receiving 90 volts of signaling current when the number was called.

4. After a couple of jolts, the dog would start moaning and then urinate.

5. The wet ground would complete the circuit, thus causing the phone to ring.

Which demonstrates that some problems CAN be fixed by pissing and moaning.

Thought you'd like to know.

So. Been writing a fanfic. Several, actually. Nothing new...

So what's the problem?

Help, anyone? ...Meaning Sevlow and Cat, of course, since no one else reads this thing... >_> Yeah. I just need some ideas/suggestions/saving over here... T.T

Fic length: oneshot (maybe, or just REALLY short chapters)

Title (probably): Murder

Summary (probably): Maes and Diana Mustang don't understand why anyone would call their daddy such a terrible name.

Fic so far:

Two in the morning and two years old.

Why was Daddy crying? she asked.

Daddy said he wasn't.

And Daddy didn't lie but Daddy was lying-- his eyes were all puffy and his voice came out wrong. She looked up at Daddy, hurt, but that just made Daddy look sadder so she stopped looking at him like that.

I'm fine, kid. Don't worry.

Daddy didn't sound fine, but what could she do? Usually Mommy made him feel better when he was upset, but Mommy was asleep and they couldn't wake her up now, she was busy taking care of Diana's little brother or sister (she had yet to work out how an entire person could be growing in Mommy's stomach, or how they had gotten in there in the first place, but whatever).

So she tried to remember what Mommy did for Daddy when he was upset. They almost always told Diana to leave the room while they talked, so she didn't really know... maybe they could talk?

Come here, Daddy.

Daddy smiled weakly and let her tug him into the kitchen. He sat down on one of the big wooden chairs and Diana went to sit down in one too, but she was too small to reach so Daddy reached down with his big, strong hands and put her in his lap.

She turned around to face him and looked at him real serious. She had to do this right, like Mommy did.

Tell me what's wrong, Daddy.

Daddy looked surprised for a second, but then he smiled and laughed. I'm fine, he said, I'm fine.

But he wasn't fine.

So she put on her best pouty-face and told him again, even more serious this time. What happened, Daddy? Did somebody hurt you?

Daddy sighed and stopped smiling. He put a hand on her head, brushing her hair-- black and silky just like his, he was always trying not to brag about how much she looked like him-- out of her chubby little face.

No, Diana. No one hurt me. Actually, I... I hurt someone else.

Oh.

Are you sorry?

Yes, he said, and she believed him. Yes, I'm very sorry, and he looked so, so sad.

Diana put one of her chubby pale hands on his head and pet his hair.

It's okay, she promised. You're sorry and it's done now, so it's okay. How bad can it be?

But he just shook his head and held her tight. Don't worry, he said, I'll tell you someday.

And Diana believed him.

But it wasn't Someday yet.

Not when Diana woke up the next morning (Daddy still wasn't all better, but Diana didn't know what else she could do).

Not when her little brother Maes was out of Mommy (Daddy looked real sad, with Mommy in the hospital too long and the house too empty without her, but Diana still didn't know what to do).

Not when Diana had to go to school (she'd cried and screamed and thrown things, but Daddy still made her go, and she said she hated him but then he looked kinda sad so she didn't say that anymore).

Not even when she asked. He just told her don't worry and go back to sleep.

I had a bad dream, Daddy...

Sniff and cling. I don't... d-don' wan' it to come back.Sigh and squeeze. Of course not. Do you want to talk about it?

Pause and look up. Daddy?

Eye closed and mouth turned down.

My bad dreams are different.

Conversation over.

Not even when Maes woke her up in the middle of the night, all scared and crying.

"Something's wrong with Daddy," he said in a tiny voice.

Diana was still sleepy, but she woke up real quick after that.

"What happened?"

"I don'no..." Maes shook his head and put his fingers back in his mouth. He was shaking too much to say anything else.

"Come on." She took the hand that wasn't in his mouth and led him over to Mommy and Daddy's room. He sniffled the whole way there. Diana frowned-- boys sure were useless sometimes.

But just like he said, there was something wrong. When they reached the door, they could hear Mommy inside, saying something in her Comfort voice-- and if Diana listened real close, she could hear a muffled something that sounded like Daddy... Except Daddy didn't make that noise, right?

"Go back to sleep."

Maes whimpered and shuffled closer. "B-but... wha 'b-bout Daddy?"

"Go to sleep." If Daddy didn't like Diana to try and help, then he wouldn't want Maes to try either, right?

Maes looked up at her for a second, but then he let go of her hand. "Can you tell Daddy to come tuck me in when he's better?"

"Sure. Go to bed."

He nodded and started shuffling off, and when he didn't go fast enough she gave him a little push. He whined and moved faster.

But Mommy must have heard them talking, because the next thing Diana knew Mommy was there, the door open and Mommy's hand on her head.

"What are you doing up, Diana?"

And then she started to regret sending Maes off. Would she be let into the room? If Maes was here, maybe Mommy would have paid attention to him while Diana went in to see Daddy... But that was a dumb idea. Even though Mommy looked tired and sad, she was still Mommy and therefore not to be messed with. Diana would just have to be honest.

"Is Daddy okay?"

At first Mommy didn't say anything. Diana looked at the floor, thinking Mommy might be mad and then she would be sent to bed just like Maes... but then Mommy surprised her.

"Roy..." she called, "your daughter is worried about you."

Diana looked at Mommy, hopeful, and Mommy smiled a little and took her hand, bringing her over to the bed where Daddy was blinking hard and wiping his face.

Mommy let her climb up on the bed with them, and she crawled onto Daddy's lap.

"What's wrong, Daddy?"

Daddy didn't say anything, just tried to put on a strong face for his little girl. Diana frowned at him. Mommy touched his shoulder, smiled, and said she'd be right back.

He nodded at Mommy, but he still didn't answer the question. So Diana asked again. "What happened, Daddy? Why are you crying?"

"I'm not crying."

"You were."

"I'm fine, Diana."

"How come you always say that?"

He sat back a little and petted her hair, but still didn't answer for a while. She didn't think he would, but then he sighed and began, "I'll tell you when you're older."

"But--"

"Shh, no. Listen." He put a thumb on her mouth and she was quiet. "You and Maes are not supposed to take care of me. Not when you're so little. That's not the way it works."

She wanted to say something. She wanted to tell him she wasn't a baby anymore, she could take care of herself, she even tought Maes to tie his shoes and she didn't even need a nightlight anymore and she could even cook a little now. She was getting bigger...

But Daddy didn't get it. He sighed again and looked at her, serious. "What happens to me is usually-- and especially in this case-- my own fault, and it's not your job try and fix it. Okay?"

"But--" Why would getting hurt be Daddy's fault? Unless he hurt someone else, like she was sure he'd told her a long time ago? But he was sorry. He was sorry and that should make everything better. What could be so bad?

Daddy shushed her and shook his head. "One day, I know I have to tell you. You have a right to know what I did. But not tonight. Not now, okay?"

"But--" If not now, then when? When would she know? He talked to Mister Elric, and he looked at Mister Elric the same way he looked at her, sometimes, and she had a feeling that even Elysia knew, but everyone said that Elysia was a kid like her. So how long would she have to wait? Elysia and Mister Elric didn't even have daddies anymore!

But Daddy didn't seem to think he was going anywhere. "Don't worry about me, Diana." He ruffled her hair. "It's not healthy."

She wanted to say something else, but then Mommy came back into the room and sat down on the bed with Maes. Maes looked worried still, but Daddy smiled and said he was okay, and Maes smiled. Maes believed him.

Diana didn't, though. Not anymore.

It happened a lot, in the middle of the night... and she didn't want to think that way, but she couldn't help it.

It must be because her daddy was strong. He wasn't like the other military daddies who had kids in school that bragged about them. He wasn't like the other grownups in blue and black who walked around like they were in charge. Diana never even needed to brag about him, because everybody knew who he was and everybody knew that most of the other daddies in blue had to put their hands on their heads whenever her daddy walked by.

Her daddy never even flinched at things that scared her and Maes. People didn't scare him, even when they were a lot bigger (which they usually were). Even when they looked a lot tougher (which they never were). Even when they tried (which they were doing less and less these days).

Even a big muscular crazy person like Mister Armstrong didn't scare her daddy (he scared Maes, but he didn't scare Diana anymore because he never hurt her and she always got really nice birthday presents from him), not even when he was using his alchemy and punching the ground (which also wasn't so scary anymore, just kinda cool).

Even a loud tough half-metal alchemist like Adrian's daddy didn't scare hers, not even when he made a blade out of his arm (which was kinda scary, okay, but even cooler than Mister Armstrong's tricks), not even when he was angry (which actually was pretty scary).

Not even her mommy could really scare her daddy.

And her mommy could get really, really scary sometimes.

But her daddy wasn't scared.

So how could Diana not wonder... how could she lie there, night after night and even if it wasn't one of those nights, how could she just stare at the ceiling and not tremble with terror and morbid, horrified wonder at what in the world could make her so strong daddy wake up crying at night?

Nash Tringham was a filthy little liar. He was a jerk and he was stupid and Diana never wanted to see his ugly pink face again.

He deserved to have his fat dumb cheek punched in!

"I'm sure he did, kiddo, but that doesn't mean you have to be the one to do it." Elysia was trying to sound all stern and big-sister-y, but she thought the whole thing was hilarious, Diana could tell.

Adrian wasn't even trying. "I thought it was great," he laughed. "Did you see the look on his face when he fell? I thought he was gonna cry--"

"Adrian Elric, you be nice."

"But it's true! He's such a--"

"That doesn't mean you have to say so."

Diana huffed agrily, trying not to pout. Elysia might not disagree with them all that much, and she hardly ever got mad, but in the end she always sided with the rest of the grownups. Diana honestly didn't understand why she didn't just have her own kids.

"He was asking for it," Diana insisted again, angrily kicking a rock out of her path. "He was saying stuff."

"Yeah," Adrian agreed, much more serious now than she had expected. "He was saying some really bad stuff."

Elysia only sighed. "Listen, guys... just because someone tries to start something doesn't mean you have to let them. Okay?"

"But--"

"But nothing. True, some things are worth fighting for... but you have to choose your battles. Don't be so quick to throw punches-- I know your dad will tell you the same thing, Adrian."

...And that's all I have. T-T Stupid little Nash was saying some bad things about Daddy, that's why Diana had to punch him... yeah. o.O;; I have a pretty good vision of how I want the whole thing to end, and I have vague ideas of some of the middle, but for the most part I'm stuck. Help me out? Plz? D:

Oh yeah, and Diana and Adrian are the same age. Maes is two years younger. Elysia is about fourteen years older. Adrian is Ed's son (in case you missed that...), and has two sisters, one of which is adopted and MUCH older, the other of which is three years younger. ...Does that help at all?

Then how do you--

Shh. Try to get back to sleep. It's a school night.

Mwaaaaa.... I iz bored. And tired. AND NONE OF MY FRIENDS ARE ONLINE. *sob*

Anyways, just passing the time until I'm able to get off my lazy bum and finish up the next chapter of "Fission, Attrition, Ignition" ... yeah, yeah, I'm working on it! x_x;;
